Hygiene, body care and wellness

Every day people come into contact with millions of germs and viruses which could grow and multiply and lead to complications if people do not take appropriate precautions. Hygiene and personal care are more than just cleanliness. Practicing good body hygiene does not only positively influence physical health and keep bacteria, viruses, and illnesses away, but is also important for people’s mental wellness and positive self-esteem. In short, health, hygiene, and attractive appearance are all connected. Some of the most basic habits that good hygiene includes are regularly having a bath or a shower, washing hands, and brushing and flossing teeth. In order to be able to maintain cleanliness and take care of one’s appearance, it is of great significance for them to choose the best products. Pharmahouses offer a very wide selection of products intended to cleanse, soothe, heal, protect, and beautify the body. Some of these personal care products are designed to be used under specific circumstances, including antifungal shampoos and creams, head lice and nits lotions, and face masks.

  • Antifungal shampoos and creams

Antifungal shampoos and creams are used in the case of scalp ringworm and other fungal infections. Fungal infections can be highly contagious and affect the scalp and hair shafts. They might cause itching and burning on the top of the head. They should be treated immediately with medicated shampoos or creams which can be found at pharmahouses. These products are not always enough to completely deal with the infection, as they could not reach hair shafts, but they help by clearing fungi and fungal spores from the surface of the scalps and the hair. For best results it is recommended to use an antifungal shampoo or cream twice a week for a few weeks as an addition to antifungal medicine. The most common types of hair antifungal products are ketoconazole shampoos, selenium sulfide shampoos, and terbinafine creams.

  • Head lice and nits lotions

Head lice lotions contain ingredients (such as dimethicone and pyrethrins) that kill head lice and their eggs, also called nits. Lice are small insects, up to three mm long, that can be difficult to spot. They are transmitted from head to head and are very common in young children. All family members who have been found head lice should be treated straight away. Lotions should be gently rubbed into the scalp and then spread from roots to tips of the hairs. It should be left for 15 minutes and then after applying a normal shampoo to the hair, it can be washed thoroughly. It is also important to use a nit comb to check the hair for lice. The dosage of the lotion depends on the thickness and the length of the hair. If there are nits that survived the first treatment, it must be repeated once again. Most of the lotions can be purchased without a prescription, but it is advisable to seek advice from GP. This kind of treatment lotions should not be used on babies under six months.

Face masks have turned into one of the most popular care and beauty products for both women and men. A large number of masks with different properties is offered at pharmahouses. These home beauty remedies are mostly used to clean or smooth the face skin.
